In response to the online consultation on management of MPAs in Wales, the only comment I would like to make is that for cross-boundary sites such as the Dee Estuary, it is vital that there is joined up management between the regulators / SNCBs. In the case of the Dee this would be ourselves – the NWIFCA for fisheries management -Welsh Government, Natural England and NRW.
The Dee Estuary SAC needs to be treated as a whole, not in two halves. We should be moving away from the position we find ourselves in now with different sets of regulation on either side of the Welsh / English border (line down the middle).
